Twitter’s New Office

new twitter offices

The popular social networking site Twitter recently relocated its office headquarters to a space previously occupied by Bebo in San Francisco’s SoMa district.  The interior design of the new office was spearheaded by Sara Morishige Williams, whose goal was to “bring the outdoors in, while making the space playful yet useful and sustainable”.  The entire office is equipped with wifi connectivity, and has several fun features such as a dj booth, arcade, custom concrete conference tables, and of course plenty of playful bird depictions.

Here’s some pictures taken by the company’s own employees.

Working from home is an absolute delight as it allows you unlimited freedom and flexibility. No wonder many people are quitting their 9 to 5 jobs and turning to more relaxed, flexible work at home jobs. However, working from home comes with its own set of problems. You have to manage your family and its privacy while getting your own peace of mind. Since homes do not always offer ideal and professional working conditions, you have to create your own working space in your house. Given below are some home office ideas for small spaces. More on home office design ideas.

Home Office Ideas and Tips

Choose Your Location
You need a quiet area in your home where you can concentrate on your work. If you are going to have visitors, then it is important to secure your family's privacy first. Thus, ideally a small basement or an outhouse can serve the purpose of a home office very well. You can continue with your work in peace without disturbing your family. A spare bedroom in house is also a good option to set up your home office. Having a place of your own can ensure that you can make major interior changes in your office. On the other hand if you cannot afford the luxury of a separate room for office you might have to make special arrangements for your office in family sitting room or living room. This can be quite stressful for you as well as your family.

Furniture and Accessories
If you have a place of your own for your home office, then you can buy all the necessary office furniture. A desk with a computer, chairs, file cabinets, sofa are some essential requirements of your home office. If you are using a part of your living room as an office, then you may have to forgo a few of these furniture items. Use your family sofa to entertain your visitors (your family may not be too happy with the arrangement, but you will have to convince them!). Instead of a computer, go for a laptop, since it is more convenient to use and occupies less space. File cabinet is a must to store and manage your paperwork. More on home office furniture buying tips.

Paint and Flooring
You have the liberty of choosing a paint and flooring of your choice only if you have a separate room for your office. Ideally, you should go for neutral or pastel colors for your home office. Bright colors prove to be a big distraction, hence, go for lighter, soothing shades to keep your mind calm. You may also have to provide special attention to the lighting of your home office. Accent lamps are a must have for desk. However, you may also have to arrange for over head lighting if you plan to have visitors for your work at home business. Changing the flooring of the room can be an expensive task, hence, you might want to keep your existing flooring. You can simply throw a rug or carpet to match your flooring with the rest of your office décor.

Office Supplies
After you have got the basic requirement to set up your office, you will have to buy the necessary office supplies for your business. These include printer papers, cartridges, files and folders etc. Make sure you have enough space to store your office supplies.

Office Furniture Design

Not only is green office durable and attractive, one who buys this type of furniture is doing their part to protect the environment. So, what is green office furniture? This kind of furniture is functional furniture made from refurbished or recycled material, or products that do not contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs), or are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

The wood used in green office furniture has been screened to ensure that it has been harvested using sustainable practices. That is, the particular wood is quickly renewable, or that the logging technique is respectful of the environment, and that the lumber companies have sustainability policies in place. Greenguard is an organization that also evaluates the furniture in terms of indoor air quality.

The materials that stand up to this scrutiny are not only wood, but aluminum and steel used for the frames of furniture and other office pieces such as file cabinets and desks. Methods of recovering and reusing these metals have improved as demand for recyclables has increased. Fabrics may in fact be recycled soda or water bottles.

The first benefit is cleaner air in the office, whether you work from home or another location. VOCs are compounds that vaporize into the air under ordinary circumstances. These are compounds that result from the treatment and manufacturing process of many modern products. Wood preservatives are one source of VOCs in the home or office.Office Design

Plan for a little growth, but don’t overbuild or over design a space. Instead, look ahead to how that space will be used when you’ve grown or moved out of it.

Conceal as many of your electrical cords, telephone wire or cables out of sight as possible. If you have long lengths of cable running from room to room (or down a hallway), consider drilling holes and lifting baseboards as necessary to get them out of sight. Lots of cords can make an office look messy and may have visitors wonder how neat you really are.

Plan for places to display your art, mementos, collectibles, personal photos, or anything else that reflects your life and passions. Let your workplace reflect the things in life that reminds you of why your are working.

Plants add color, soften hard lines and work great for hiding unsightly areas! Silks are beautiful and easy to care for or if you have a green thumb life plants are perfect.[ Plants can also make the office space look more relaxing and less sterile.

There is a wide range of furniture and finishes to fit in with your existing decor to suit your budget. Look around and get the best possible price when shopping.
